Collection Days: Share what you no longer need and help new students settle in!

ESN VMU Kaunas invites all VMU students to donate items they no longer need to support incoming exchange and full-time students arriving in January for the Spring Semester 2026.

This initiative, called “Collection Days” is a natural continuation of the DON@ – Donation Opportunities for Newcomers project, which started in 2023 and officially concluded in autumn 2024.

Our main goal is to enhance the integration and living conditions of students with fewer opportunities through mutual support, inclusion, and sustainable development. That’s why we invite current students who are leaving to donate the items they no longer need or cannot take with them when traveling home.

Traditionally, the pick-up points are located in VMU dormitories at two Kaunas locations — in the city center and on the Akademija campus — to make the collection process convenient for everyone. Come and bring your items to the volunteers, who will be waiting for you on the assigned days and at the specified times.

Only three rules:

Items must be clean and gently used
Stick to the specified categories above
Pack items in bags

When and where can VMU students bring the items for donation?

The timetable for collection days at VMU Dormitory No. 2 (Baltija), Vytauto pr. 71, Kaunas, lobby:

December 4, Thursday – 18:00–19:30
December 10, Wednesday – 18:00–19:30
December 16, Tuesday – 12:00–13:00
December 19, Friday – 19:00–20:00

Additional dates for item collection in January will be announced at the beginning of January.

The timetable for collection days at VMU Dormitory No. 5, Universiteto str. 8, Akademija, lobby:

December 4, Thursday – 18:00–19:30
December 10, Wednesday – 15:00–16:30
December 17, Wednesday – 16:00–17:30

We accept the following categories of things:

Kitchen stuff (pans or pots – induction cookware, plates, blenders, cups, knives, cutlery, dishes, kettle, dishware, etc.)
Electronics (USBs, fan, table lamps, iron, etc.)
Study and leisure time stuff (umbrella, backpacks, bags, books, sports equipment, hobby stuff for handmade, stationery such as notebooks, paper, pens, holders, etc.)
Household items (cleaning tools such as mops, brooms, washing powder; storage containers or boxes, buckets, mirrors, hangers for clothes; decoration such as candles, flashlights, photo frames, etc.)

Additional dates for item collection in January will be announced at the beginning of January.

All donated items will be stored in designated rooms in the VMU dormitory until the end of January. Before the new semester begins, we will host a Donation Day during the orientation week to distribute these items among incoming students.

Note! We do not accept the following items for storage: clothes and footwear, bedding, food products, ingredients, and medicine. Bedding can be donated only in the Akademija dormitory and only after arranging it in advance with the volunteer who will be collecting the items.

Consider donating them directly to homeless individuals at Partizanu str. 5, Kaunas (Ateik-Caritas). The entrance is located at the back of the building and is open Monday to Friday from 13:30 to 16:30. There is a Facebook group where you can ask for advice on what items are needed for the homeless: Help The Homeless Kaunas

Please do not leave things on the dormitory premises. Plan ahead and take them to textile sorting bins.

Who can donate items?

All VMU students, whether residing in a dormitory or elsewhere.

How frequently will such events take place?

These Collection Days will be organized according to the above mentioned schedule. If needed, we will host additional collection events in January. You will be informed about the upcoming events later.

The application for accommodation for new incoming international students

Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) announces that applications for accommodation in VMU dormitories for new incoming international students will be open in two stages: from December 19, 2025, and from January 5, 2026.

Please note that this application is open exclusively to incoming Erasmus+, Bilateral or other international exchange students and newly enrolled full-time students, starting the studies at VMU from Spring semester (1^st February 2026) for accommodation in the Spring semester. Other VMU senior students, who are not currently residing in VMU dormitories or residents wishing to change their current room will be allowed to reserve one of the available rooms only after January 25, 2026.

IMPORTANT: Only students who have already received acceptance or pre-acceptance letter (Erasmus+, Bilateral Exchange, or Visiting Students) may apply. If you have any questions please contact International Cooperation Department.

PLEASE NOTE: Only exchange students can reserve rooms on the 5th floor of VMU Dormitory No. 5 (located at Universiteto g. 8, Akademija, Kaunas district).

To reserve a place in one of the VMU dormitories, all exchange and newly enrolled full-time students, starting the studies at VMU from Spring semester, must follow this procedure:

VMU DORMITORY ACCOMMODATION PROCEDURE FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Get to know about VMU dormitories (No. 2 “Baltija” in Kaunas, No. 5 in Akademija, Kaunas District, and No. 6 “Vivulskis” in Vilnius), including accommodation prices, living conditions, and more.
Log in to the online accommodation system (VMU Students accommodation) and look for ‘Accommodation in Student Rooms’ using the username and password with the same credentials which students created when they apply for exchange studies at VMU.
Reserve a place from the provided list of Accommodation in Student Rooms (please note that the number of available spots in the dormitories is very limited, however, the list will be updated constantly at 2 PM by the UTC +2 Eastern European Time (EET) zone:
- on December 19 and January 5, 2026).
- From January 19, 2026 onwards, it will be updated regularly, so it is recommended to check it frequently).
Receive an email confirming your reservation. This email means that the room of your choice will be reserved for your arrival until January 31, 2026.
Receive a second email in mid-January with instructions on how to sign your electronic Agreement for Accommodation, and sign it.
Move into the dormitory (no earlier than January 15 and after signing your Agreement for Accommodation) by January 31, 2026. (IMPORTANT: If you are unable to move in by January 31, you can arrange with the dormitory administration to move in later; however, starting February 1, you will be charged the room fee. In other cases, if you do not move to the dormitory by January 31, 2026, your room reservation will be cancelled.

ALTERNATIVE HOUSING OPTIONS FOR NEW VMU INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

FOR NON-VMU STUDENTS

Please be informed that, due to high demand from Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) students for accommodation in VMU dormitories in Kaunas, Akademija (Kaunas district), and Vilnius, it will not be possible to reserve a vacant room for non-VMU students until further notice. All existing reservations will be cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please follow the information in the ‘News’ section at http://accommodation.vdu.lt.

Important Notice for Residents of VDU Dormitory No. 6

Starting today, laundry machines at VDU Dormitory No. 6, located at A. Vivulskio St. 36, Vilnius, will be temporarily unavailable due to renovation work in the first-floor room area.

The service will be restored as soon as the renovation is completed.

Participate in the elections for the Chairpersons of the VMU Dormitory Councils

Vytautas Magnus University has announced the election to the Dormitory Council, which is organized in accordance with VMU Dormitory Self-Government regulations. If you are living in VMU Dormitory No. 2 at Vytauto pr. 71 (“Baltija”), Kaunas, or No. 6 at A. Vivulskio str. 36, Vilnius, or No. 5 at Universiteto str. 8, Akademija, Kaunas district, and you are interested in becoming the Chairperson of the Dormitory Council, then all you need to do is fill out this electronic application by September 25, 2025, by 11:59 PM and meet the following criteria:

You must be a student at Vytautas Magnus University.
You must be motivated.
You need to create a one-year activity plan for the Council.
You should have experience in social activities.
You must have experience living in the dormitory.
You cannot have penalties for infringements of the University’s internal legal acts.

After becoming a Chairperson, the student will be exempt from paying dormitory accommodation fees for the academic year (starting in October) 2025/2026.

The Chairperson of the Dormitory Council is elected in three stages:

I Stage – Candidates apply for this position by filling out this questionnaire by September 25^th (until 11:59 PM) 2025. Selected candidates will be informed of their invitation to run for the election of the Chairperson of the Dormitory Council in the beginning of October.

II Stage – Candidates selected by the Students’ Representative and the Student Affairs Department are invited to attend a meeting of the Selection Committee. The date, time, format, and venue will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates.

III Stage – If necessary, the candidate must participate in the election of the Dormitory Council’s Chairperson, which will be held at the general meeting of dormitory residents.

A person who is interested in becoming the Chairperson of the Dormitory Council must submit the following information along with the electronic application form:

Personal data.
A letter of motivation.
A narrative presentation of the planned annual activities of the Dormitory Council (the Dormitory Council’s activity plan), which should include:
- The problems identified in the dormitory and proposed solutions.
- the objectives, activities, and initiatives for the term of office.
- informal activities to mobilise the community.
A Curriculum Vitae (CV).

Dormitory Council and the Chairperson

We want to remind you that the Chairperson has the right and power to form and manage the Dormitory Council.

The elected Chairperson of the dormitory will be exempt from payment of the accommodation fee for the 2025/2026 academic year (from October 1, 2025 until June 30, 2026)

The main purpose of the Dormitory Council is to assist the Chairperson in implementing the following objectives:

To represent the interests of the dormitory residents in the University ‘s (dormitory‘s) administration.
To communicate University (dormitory) requirements to residents.
To maintain the integrity of the community.
To carry out social and cultural activities.
To mediate in cases of misunderstandings or problems between residents or between residents and the administration.

The Chairperson of the Dormitory Council is elected annually at the beginning of each academic year by the general meeting of dormitory residents, following a selection procedure performed by the Students’ Representative Council and the Student Affairs Department.

“Sharing is Caring” Returns for New Students!

We’re delighted to invite all new full-time international and exchange students to our “Sharing is Caring” event! Explore a variety of items generously left behind by former students – all free of charge. You’ll find everything from kitchenware and electronics to study supplies, leisure items, household essentials, and much more.

Date: August 29, Friday

Time: 16:00 – 17:00

Location: Baltija Dormitory, Vytauto pr. 71, Kaunas (entrance)

If it rains, the event will be in the orangery – follow the arrows. In good weather, it will take place outside at the entrance.

This traditional activity continues the sustainable efforts initiated by the DON@ project – Donation Opportunities for Newcomers. The initiative supports students with fewer opportunities by fostering inclusion, sustainability, and mutual support. Newcomer students will discover a wide range of free, useful items left by the previous cohort, including kitchenware, household essentials, sports equipment, and hobby supplies. All registered participants will also have a chance to win valuable prizes in a lottery, helping them feel at home in Kaunas!

Dormitory Prices and Accommodation Fee Refund Policy for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

For the 2025/2026 academic year, accommodation and overnight stay prices in dormitories remain unchanged.

The accommodation fee is non-refundable if the contract is concluded for a period shorter than 2 months. Exceptions are not made even in cases where the student notifies about not arriving at the dormitory or stays for a shorter period than indicated in the reservation.

We would like to inform you about the most important dates and terms for the accommodation of our international students in the dormitories of Vytautas Magnus University during the Autumn semester of the 2025/2026 academic year:

Until 2025.08.31	Free reservations made by new international students are kept until this date. 	Accommodation for NON-FINAL-YEAR students
Until 2025.05.31	Room changes and new reservations are allowed by choosing rooms from the list of available places on Student Portal studentas.vdu.lt
From 2025.07.01	For students (not in their final year) whose accommodation contracts end on June 30, 2025, and who do not have any disciplinary sanctions, new accommodation contracts (valid until June 30, 2026) will be automatically created and can be signed from July 1, 2025.
From 2025.08.25	List of remaining vacant rooms will be published for all VMU students.
From 2025.09.10	Accommodation contracts will be terminated for students who are on academic leave.
	Accommodation for FINAL-YEAR bachelor students
By 2025.07.31	Final-year VMU students must vacate the VMU dormitories (this includes those who have disciplinary penalties), except for those who have signed a master’s degree study agreement – they may continue living in the dormitory. 	Accommodation for students of OTHER UNIVERSITIES
2025/2026 academic year	VMU will not provide accommodation for students from OTHER higher education institutions during the 2025/2026 academic year.

Accommodation Applications for New International Full-Time Students 2025/2026

Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) announces that applications for accommodation in VMU dormitories for new incoming international full-time students will open as follows:

For new full-time Bachelor’s students: July 21 (1:00 PM) – July 23 (5:00 PM), 2025 (UTC+3, EEST).
For new full-time Master’s students: July 24 (1:00 PM) – July 25 (5:00 PM), 2025 (UTC+3, EEST).

IMPORTANT:

Applications are open exclusively to new international full-time students who will begin studies at VMU from the Autumn semester (August 25, 2025). Other VMU students or residents wishing to change rooms will be able to apply only after August 25, 2025, subject to availability.
Students must have signed the Agreement of Studies.
The number of places in VMU dormitories is very limited.

VMU DORMITORY RESERVATION PROCEDURES FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL FULL-TIME STUDENTS

Familiarize yourself with VMU dormitories (Dorm No. 2 “Baltija” in Kaunas, No. 5 in Akademija, and No. 6 “Vivulskis” in Vilnius), including prices and living conditions.
Log in to the VMU Accommodation System using your personal credentials (username and password).
Reserve a place in a room from the available list titled ‘Accommodation in Student Rooms’. Please note:
- Places are very limited!!!
- The list will be updated only:
  - For new full-time Bachelor’s students: July 21 (1:00 PM) – July 23 (5:00 PM), 2025 (UTC+3, EEST),
  - For new full-time Master’s students: July 24 (1:00 PM) – July 25 (5:00 PM), 2025 (UTC+3, EEST).
- After noticed periods, room reservations will reopen only on August 25, subject to availability, and the list will be updated regularly. Please check it frequently.
Receive a confirmation email — this confirms your reservation and guarantees the room until August 31, 2025.
Receive a second email in August with information on how to sign the electronic Accommodation Agreement and sign it.
Move into the dormitory between August 11–31, 2025, only after signing the agreement.
- If you cannot arrive by August 31, notify the dormitory administration in advance.
- From September 1, you will be charged the full room fee, regardless of whether you have moved in.
- Failure to move in by August 31 without prior notice will result in cancellation of your reservation.

Accommodation Applications for Current Dormitory Residents Continuing as Master’s Students 2025/2026

Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) students who are currently living in a VMU dormitory and have been admitted to a Master’s degree programme starting in the 2025/2026 academic year can apply to continue living in the same dormitory room.

Starting from July 25, such students must send an email to studentas@vdu.lt, clearly indicating their full name and their dormitory and room number.

They will then receive a reply with the possibility to sign a new Accommodation Agreement.

Please note: This procedure applies only to students who are already living in a VMU dormitory and wish to remain in the same room while continuing their studies at the master’s level.

The deadline for concluding extended accommodation agreements is 07.10.2025

Students who are currently living in VMU dormitories and with whom Vytautas Magnus University has extended accommodation agreements until the 30^th of June 2026, must sign the formed accommodation agreement by the 10^th of July 2025 (inclusive) by connecting to https://epasirasymas.vdu.lt/ using the login provided by VMU. If the accommodation agreement is not concluded in time, the allocated place of residence will be canceled.
